I need advice for growing sweet basil indoors?

Question by Sweet L: I need advice for growing sweet basil indoors?
I do have one plant outside that has gone to seed. They also have little white flowers on them. Can the seed part be dried and eaten as well as the leaves? I have bought the plants in the small pots at the grocery store, but after a while the stems turn brown. Am i over watering? Should I fertilize? Lots of ?’s I know. Thanks in advance!

First of all, you shouldn’t let the plant go to seed–you are growing it for the foliage, not for the flowers. I’ve never heard of eating the dried seed parts, so I wouldn’t recommend that. Brown stems usually do signify overwatering. If you’re growing sweet basil indoors, put it in a sunny window (either east or south-facing) and water it evenly–never let it sit in water, so if you have a saucer underneath it, always empty the saucer after the water has permeated the plant. As far as fertilizer, I’m a Miracle-Gro man myself, but you can also use something organic like fish emulsion (it does has a fishy odor for a few days, though). I hope this helps.
