How beneficial is it to switch from Coca-Cola to Arizona Green Tea?

August 23rd, 2010

Question by Michelle: How beneficial is it to switch from Coca-Cola to Arizona Green Tea?
I have turned over a new leaf lately! Yeah for me! I have gained a lot of weight over the past few years… so to better myself I have started working out, eating better (and less), I totally stopped drinking coffee (which I LOVE and drink way too much of, with cream and sugar I may add) and I cut my Coca-Cola intake (which I have been addicted to FOREVER) to one a week (instead of like 5 or 6 a day!!), but the thing is to give myself the “caffeine boost” that I so desperatley need somedays I have taking up drinking AriZona Green Tea with Ginseng and Honey…. so my question to all of you great people is… how much more beneficial is it to change from coffee or coke to tea??
I do drink nothing but water all day now… for those of you that I didn’t add that tid bit in for… so other than that I drink maybe one or two AriZona’s a week.

The tea will give you a better kind of energy, a more natrual energy that won’t end with a crash ya know? Plus you can get green tea without sugar. Coke is loaded with sugar. Green tea can help you lose weight, can help cleans your insides, can keep you healthy with natural antioxidants, and it’s better for your teeth as well.

Sugar free green tea is much better for you. No fiz, few calories, and can even help boost your metabolism with EGCG. They say that pop makes your stomach look bigger.

Not much difference between Coke and the Arizona Green Tea; both contain high fructose corn syrup, not sugar, and that is one of the major contributors to obesity in the last decade, as everything seems to contain it–including so called health drinks like Garorade. Stick with water and avoid high fructose corn syrup whenever possible.

well benificiall it is most certainly… tea has no calories, so its a good way to cut down on your calory intake. tea without sugar keeps you off that sugar high (most people live on nowadays cus of added sugars in everything from burgers to softdrinks)

however, in contrary to what you seem to think, tea does not contain caffeine. it contains teaine (im not joking here:P) which is a mildy relaxing substance. far less adictive than caffeine (which is a stimulant)

Everyone is essentially correct in saying it’s better for you because in fact, it is. But as an avid once-upon-a-time drinker of Mountain Dew Code Red, tea is still not good for you. Most people think that they’ll need the caffiene. In fact, I’ve been drinking Code Red since it first came out and almost nothing else. I switched to tea to cut out sugars first, then orange juice and then flavoured waters. Then I switched to water almost purely. I’ve been soda/caffiene/flavoured water/etc-free for a month now.

At first when you switch to mainly water, your body will feel like crud because it is in fact trying to kick the habit. Caffiene IS a drug and you can look that up. People are too dependent on caffiene nowadays in my opinion and I can actually say, “Been there, done that!”

Tea every once in awhile is great for you! But everyday it’s not. Your teeth may not rot like how soda can but it’ll still stain your teeth. That’s because it’s a dark liquid (that’s what stains your teeth over time).

Trust me, you don’t need tea. You just have to figure out that next step to switch to water. Water replenishes you. Caffiene actually dehydrates you. That’s why you should never drink it whilst you’re working on a hot summer day to hydrate you. That’s the reason soda is bad for you.

There’s plenty of benefits to water. Bags under your eyes will go away because you’ll be hydrated. Drink plenty of water when you first wake up and you’ll feel your natural energy come out through out the day. It’ll take a week or 2 to get over your kick but you’ll wonder why you didn’t switch before. After that, soda and tea won’t taste the same since.

The Green Tea is only somewhat better than the soda (I’m assuming that you drink the regular kind and not the diet version). For an 8 oz serving, there is 27 g of sugar in cola vs. 17 g of sugar in the regular Green Tea. Adding a teaspoon of honey to the tea gives you another 6 g of sugar, making it only marginally better than cola.

Arizona Green Tea contains about 60% of the caffeine that coffee does, so you need to drink more of it to get the same effect.

If you truly want to cut back on the sugar and still get the caffeine, coffee is actually better for you in the long run than green tea…just use a different kind of sweetener than the sugar.

To truly cut back on sugar, you should forego regular soda altogether and switch to a diet brand. If you, like me, hate the taste of aspartame, try sodas sweetened with Splenda instead…I am a big fan of Pepsi One, which tastes a lot like regular soda but doesn’t give you the calories of sugar and still contains the caffeine.

You’re really not benefiting all that much with such a change.
